Cowering now on the cavern floor, Argyle was unable to draw a full breath. The creature’s glow illumined a pile of human skulls and bones as it hissed in high whispered tones, “Welcome manfolker, nnnnnnssshhhhhh! I will have your life, I will I will.” Then its eyes flashed bright red and it lunged forward. But as it did, out of nowhere, a flash of blinding light exploded in the cavern and a huge glistening figure appeared, igniting the creature in flames. “Nyieessssshhhhhhhhhhhh!” the being’s severed head screeched as it disintegrated into ash. “Who are you?!” Argyle cried out. “What are you?!”
Then another flash engulfed the cavern, and Argyle was instantly snatched upward, finding himself immediately back on the path. After regaining his senses he searched and listened for the others along the path until the glistening being appeared again and commanded, “Go now, home.” So he set a quick pace back toward Noy, and thought he saw his deliverer once or twice over the next two days of his near-run march
